Apprentice Butcher

An exciting job opportunity has arisen to join Pickstock Telford as an Apprentice Butcher. This role offers a successful and rewarding career alongside gaining a recognised Butchery qualification. This will be a great learning environment for an Apprentice looking to master the trade of butchery.

You will work alongside highly knowledgeable and reputable, Managers, Supervisors and Butchers to develop a wide skillset to ensure you can start your career in this exciting industry.

No previous experience necessary as all training will be provided.

Lairage Manager

Job Description

As the Manager in our Lairage you will be responsible for animal welfare and health and safety, hygiene and operational matters. You will also be responsible for supervising a small team and be a key contact with the delivery of livestock to the site, maintaining daily throughput, and ensuring our robust policies and procedures are met and maintained.

Principal Objectives

  • Actively promote and ensure Animal Welfare is adhered to at all times
  • Ensure that the unloading of livestock is undertaken by the required Animal Welfare required standard
  • Ensure that the movement of cattle within the lairage is completed in a safe and calm manner without causing stress to the cattle
  • Complete all relevant paperwork and undertake daily audits when required
  • Adhere to Company’s hygiene practices & animal welfare procedures
  • Comply with health & safety rules, to prevent / minimise the risk of accidents
  • Communicate to your team, vets, drivers and line manager and report any issues or concerns
  • Ensure feed / bedding stock is kept up
  • Complete/ delegate daily start up checks on vehicles and machinery within the lairage.
  • To actively comply with all Company employment policies and procedures
  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them
  • Review, implement and update company records e.g. training matrices, performance reviews, risk assessments etc
  • Keeping a high standard of 5S throughout the lairage
  • Ensure general upkeep of area and equipment liaising with maintenance as a when required

Key Attributes, Knowledge & Skills

Appropriate experience of operating in a similar role

Hold an animal welfare licence (desirable not essential)

Sales and Marketing Administrator

Pickstock Telford are looking for someone to assist the Sales Manager in continuing to develop profitable business within our existing and expanding account base. Having in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media and marketing to help us develop our Companies Brand, sales and administration.

You will need to possess excellent writing skills and be able to communicate information and ideas, be proficient at developing social media/marketing plans and be comfortable working to a set of agreed key performance indicators.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to commence their career in Sales & Marketing working alongside a dynamic experience, knowledgeable professional team. To ensure clear communication between Pickstock and our customer base in terms of pricing, logistics, product specifications, promotions etc.

An understanding of the Meat Industry & sales process is also desirable.

Responsibilities will include but are not subject to:

Managing e-mail accounts for the sales manager – to include handling of customer enquiries, orders, troubleshooting, forwarding information to relevant departments.

Process orders onto the company software system, ensuring paperwork is completed correctly.

File and maintain information, including customer requests / orders and order confirmation

To assist sales manager in compiling sales offers / quote.

To assist the sales manager in sharing information with the sales and other teams

Following orders through to despatch and payment, completion of various sales reports

Assist marketing and New Product Development when required

Constant feedback of information with regard to market & competitor activities to colleagues.

Carry out day to day administrative tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

Additional ad hock duty as required by sales manager.

Maintaining and further developing customer relationships.

Work effectively within financial/operations/sales team.

Organising and preparing reports to a high standard and meet deadlines.

Maintaining and developing the UK website and social media activities

Support other members of the sales team with holiday cover and extra help over busy periods.

Abattoir Operative

The successful candidate will be responsible for the processing of cattle in accordance with individual training and licensing as applicable.

Previous experience is not essential and all training is provided.

Duties include:

  • Dressing, Trimming and Cutting of the Carcass
  • Ensuring all parts of the carcass are trimmed to produce optimum production yield
  • Removal of waste according to company policy
  • Preparation of animal carcasses

Loading Bay Operative

Pickstock Telford are looking for hardworking, enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join the Loading Bay team.

The principal objective of this role is to ensure the smooth, safe, efficient and hygienic transfer of the large carcass product between departments.

This job also involves the pre-cutting of carcass to be processed in the Boning Hall.

  • Responsibilities include:

To ensure all tasks performed are as per training given and safe working procedures

You will be required to undertake such duties as required in a safe manner.

Adhere to the always wearing of the correct/ mandatory PPE whilst within the production areas.

Keep your equipment clean and sanitised

Keep working areas tidy (CAYG)

Adhere to the Food Safety, site and departmental policies and procedures

Working to the standard required by the company
