Our Boning Hall team are looking for enthusiastic individuals to develop and learn new skills from deboning to cutting and trimming. Pickstock offers all on the job training and a new learning experience in the meat industry.

Skills Required:

Apprentice Butcher

Abattoir Operative

We are currently recruiting enthusiastic and eager individuals to come and join our Abattoir team. If you are keen to develop yourself and learn new skills within a friendly working environment, this role could be right for you.

Previous experience is not essential, and all training is provided to offer you the opportunity for progression.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the processing of cattle in accordance with individual training and licensing as applicable.

Duties include:

  • Dressing, Trimming and Cutting of the Carcass
  • Ensuring all parts of the carcass are trimmed to produce optimum production yield
  • Removal of waste according to company policy
  • Preparation of animal carcasses

Salary: £470.00-£700.00 per week

 

 

Loading Bay Operative

The principal objective of this role is to ensure the smooth, safe, efficient and hygienic transfer of the large carcass product between departments.

Responsibilities include:

To ensure all tasks performed are as per training given and safe working procedures

  • You will be required to undertake such duties as required in a safe manner.
  • Adhere to the always wearing of the correct/ mandatory PPE whilst within the production areas.
  • Keep your equipment clean and sanitised
  • Keep working areas tidy (CAYG)
  • Adhere to the Food Safety, site and departmental policies and procedures
  • Working to the standard required by the company

Salary: From £10.50 per hour

 

Night Hygiene Operative

 

This role is an integral role in our business as it is the cleaning of all areas within the factory to ensure production can run the next working day.

Working hours are 5pm-3am Monday- Friday with additional weekend work when required.

The duties will include:

  • Following Standard Operating Procedures for completion of hygiene tasks
  • Clean down of machinery in production areas to the correct standards
  • Meet requirements for needs of the business to deliver food safety standards.
  • Completion of line wash downs in a timely and consistent manner
  • Maintain a clean as you go area and demonstrate good manufacturing practice (GMP)
  • Work on different lines and areas where required
  • Knowledge of chemicals and machinery which is used in the clean down process

 

This role will include working within all areas of production facility and using heavy machinery, and industrial jet washers. Full training to be given, opportunities for development and progression.

Salary: £10.50-£12.50 per hour

 

Trainee Livestock Procurement Officer

 

The Livestock Procurement Officer is responsible for procuring of all types of cattle in line with the procurement plan, ensuring are to company specification and high welfare standards. With a focus on excellent customer service and promoting the business to successfully grow the Pickstock brand. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, communication and organisation.

Responsibilities will include but are not subject to:

  • Ambassador for the business, representing Pickstock on farms and actively promoting effective working relationships with suppliers.
  • Focus on business development, winning new work and effectively managing current relationships.
  • Working with suppliers to drive the best possible supply chain.
  • Ensure a consistent flow of livestock is received in line with production requirements.
  • Communicate with team and Livestock Manager to ensure alignment and sharing of best practices.
  • Track trends and changes within the industry, understanding the impact on our suppliers and the business as a whole.
  • Advising suppliers on upcoming changes
  • Willingness to implement change for continuous improvement, ability to analyse current working practices for improvements, flexibility and adaptability.
  • To ensure that all animal handling procedures are in line with current legislation, required standards set by the company and any supplier requirements.
  • Take part in ongoing training and development to progress in role.
  • Feedback to the Livestock Manager on a regular basis and produce clear and comprehensive reports.
  • Working within your area of procurement, understanding local trends and identifying new business opportunities.
  • Participate in team meetings, producing presentations for senior management as requested.
  • Working from Site or Farm as and when required to support the team in line with business needs.
  • Be accountable, approachable and punctual at all times.
  • Responsibility for positively representing the business ensuring person and equipment (vehicles/trailers) are well presented to suppliers.

 

As part of the training, the job will also involve:

  • Unloading and movement of livestock, adhering to animal welfare policies
  • Carrying out livestock checks against relevant paperwork
  • Maintaining high levels of cleanliness with the Lairage

Partnering with, and coaching hiring managers, you will have a hands-on approach and deliver a comprehensive service that is highly responsive.

As part of this role, you will also be responsible for managing the sponsorship process for the business. This involves venturing out and expanding your recruitment search to include prospective migrant workers. It is vital you comply with the strict sponsorship and compliance protocols that UK immigration laws require. This process involves proving we can provide genuine employment to our recruits and demonstrating we have the appropriate migrant worker monitoring and regulation strategies in place.

You are required to keep up to date with the latest legal requirements and knowledge relevant to the sponsor licence application.

This position is expected to contribute to the effectiveness of the company in identifying products and markets, suggesting sales and development strategies and in measuring the results of agreed plans.

Graduate Management Trainee

As a Pickstock Graduate you’ll:

  • Have an 18-month rotational programme which will cover: Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, Commercial, Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR
  • Understand the full extent of our Beef Processing factory, understand from farm to fork the process our products go through to reach the end customer. Have access to all elements of production/operations.
  • Learn about all elements of the operations of our business through rotating placements – this will involve going in to all areas of production

 

  • You’ll be supported in each of your rotations to gain hands on knowledge and experience of the team and overall function
  • You’ll have lots of opportunities to put your skills and learning into practice supporting key activities
  • Aim to maximise profits through developing sales strategies that match customer requirements and by promoting products, services or ideas.
